It’s not always easy to find good, reliable information about rabbit care and behaviour. There are lots of excellent resources out there, but there’s also a lot of outdated misinformation.
Taking care of bunnies isn’t common sense. Rabbits are fundamentally different from the kinds of animals we’re usually more familiar with (i.e. humans, cats, and dogs). Never assume something is safe or good for a rabbit, just because it is for other animals.
Be critical of what you see, hear, and read about bunnies. Just because someone is a vet or has experience with rabbits doesn’t necessarily mean they really know what they’re talking about, and just because it’s sold in a store doesn’t mean it’s safe.
As time passes, and as our society learns more and more about rabbits, the standards of care improve, so don’t become complacent about what you think you know. Rabbit companionship is a never-ending learning experience!
